How to Make Almond Milk

Peeled Almonds

I recently began making my own almond milk. I’m now officially addicted to this delicious, homemade milk made from almonds. We drink it plain, pour it over cereal, and use it for cooking. It’s much more satisfying than store-bought almond mlik from a box and is very easy to make. I make it every two days so that it’s always fresh and available on hand when I need it.

Awake: The Life of Yogananda Screening in Seattle

Awake Movie PosterI’ve signed up to organize a screening of Awake: The Life of Yogananda here in Seattle!

The screening will take place on Thursday, February 26, 2015 MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2015 and is brought here through Gathr. The way it works is that at least 65 tickets must be reserved for them to bring the film here. If the screening does not “tip,” then no ones card is charged and the screening does not take place.

Please spread the word about the screening and reserve your ticket now! I would love to see this film on the big screen and am excited that Gathr gives independent films a chance to be seen the way they should.

FILM SCREENING DETAILS
Monday, February 23, 2015 – 7:30PM
Thornton Stadium 14, Seattle, WA
Reserve your tickets at: http://gathr.us/screening/10202 (Tickets are NOT available at the theater. They are only available online and must be reserved before the “tip” day of February 14.)

Best Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Classes in Seattle, Kirkland, Bellevue, and Issaquah

Woman Doing Prenatal YogaPrenatal yoga is a great way to stay in shape during your pregnancy, have some time to connect with your baby, and meet other expectant moms. Experiment with different classes and teachers until you find one that fits your pace, style, and needs. Make sure to work with a qualified prenatal yoga teacher—the pregnant body has different requirements and needs than those attending a generalized yoga class. Choose an experienced teacher that can keep you safe, offer pregnancy-focused poses, and maybe even give a meditation or two that could help you during labor.

Postnatal classes are yoga classes that you take after you have your baby. Talk to your primary health care provider to get clearance before you return to yoga class. Many postnatal classes allow you to bring your baby, and again they are a great place to meet other moms!

My Life: Under Construction

This Friday I will be speaking at a panel titled “Escaping the Golden Handcuffs” for the PNWA Conference for writers here in Washington state. The panel topic is all about leaving the corporate world for creative pursuits, and the transitions that go with that. It was organized by a friend of mine, Chenelle Bremont, who left Microsoft to work on her fiction novel (check her out at notquitejaneausten.com). She made a conscious decision to focus on her writing, and wanted to speak out to others who may be considering the leap.

In preparation for speaking on the panel, I’ve spent the week considering my own life transition over the past three years. The transition wasn’t a conscious one for me, but nonetheless Continue reading

Yoga for Birth – Nonfiction, Paperback

In the works for over two years, Yoga for Birth is first book published through Circle Heart Books. It began as a project presentation for yoga teacher training, evolved into a prenatal partner workshop, and was then expanded into a full-length book. Hundreds of pages of writing, two photography shoots, a steep learning curve about book design and editing, and the creation of an original cover didn’t stop this momma from making her first independent book come to life. My wish for this book is that it acts as a gift to mothers who want to use the philosophy and postures of yoga to help them during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Continue reading

Organic Smoothie Recipe

Smoothie

This smoothie packs in a green vegetable, protein, fruit, and yogurt for a filling and delicious breakfast.

Smoothie Recipe
Use organic ingredients. If you don’t have one type of fruit, simply substitute with another fruit. All ingredients are optional, experiment until you find a mix that you like! I’ve noticed that the banana adds sweetness, the vanilla and honey mask the spinach, and the peanut butter makes it taste like a shake. I sometimes use almond butter and that tastes great too.

Ingredients:
1 cup frozen spinach
4-5 frozen strawberries
½ cup frozen raspberries Continue reading
